Tenerife has pleasant weather all year round, which is why it’s also called the island of eternal spring. In summer, it’s around 25-30 degrees here; thanks to the maritime climate, there are no extreme heatwaves, so the weather is just right for swimming. In winter, it’s a bit cooler, around 20 degrees, which is still a pleasant temperature for escaping the gloomy Czech winter weather. The sea in Tenerife is 19-24 °C year-round.
The southern part of the island is warmer and sunnier; you’ll mostly find tourist resorts here and the landscape is arid. It’s less windy and the sea is calmer. The north of the island is green and rainier. It’s more often partly cloudy to overcast. The northern and eastern coasts, where you’ll find the popular resort of Puerto de la Cruz or the capital Santa Cruz de Tenerife, are also windier with larger waves.
On mountainous Tenerife, it’s also true that the higher you go into the mountains, the colder it gets. You can sunbathe on a beach by the sea and wade through snow on the peak of El Teide all in one day. It’s good to keep this in mind for trips to higher altitudes, such as the Anaga Mountains, where you’ll definitely need long pants and a jacket.
When to go to Tenerife

Spring and autumn are ideal for hiking and sightseeing. Temperatures are also favorable for swimming, with the advantage of relatively empty beaches. Summer, with temperatures around 25-30 degrees, is the season for water fun and water sports. In winter, it’s relatively cooler, around 15-20 degrees, but still warmer than in Czechia, so it’s possible to come here to warm up.
My personal tip: In my opinion, the best month to visit Tenerife is November. Back home, it’s already bleak and gloomy, so escaping to warmer climates is very pleasant. In Tenerife, it’s around 25 degrees at that time, clear to partly cloudy—ideal weather for both swimming and sightseeing. Another advantage is that November is off-season, so you’ll find cheaper accommodation prices.

Don’t want to worry about anything? Buy a trip to Tenerife with yoga by the Atlantic and a climb up El Teide flying from Prague. You’ll explore the historic center of Puerto de la Cruz, head to the Las Cañadas del Teide National Park, and experience an adrenaline-filled drive across the crater floor and through the Masca mountain gorge. You’ll go on a trek around the El Chinyero volcano, see the beautiful corners of Orotava, enjoy a trek in the Anaga Mountains with a visit to the cave village of Chinamada, and discover San Cristóbal de la Laguna with its UNESCO-listed historic center. And in between, you’ll enjoy a nice stretch with a yoga instructor.

Accommodation in Tenerife
South Tenerife
If you’re heading there primarily for swimming, look for accommodation in the south of the island. I would choose, for example, the holiday home Finca Mariposa, the apartment Obsidian Aquarela, or the cheaper Appartement résidence Casablanca II. Another budget option with a sea view is Costa Adeje Duplex with Sea View. All these apartments have an excellent location in the resort of Costa Adeje and have their own kitchen.
North Tenerife
If you want to experience authentic Tenerife, head north. A budget accommodation option in Puerto de la Cruz is Estudio Edificio Emblemático Primera Línea. You have a year-round outdoor pool at your disposal, and Playa de Martiánez beach is just 200 meters away. The only complication might be the parking lot located 1.4 km from the accommodation. The price for a week’s stay at the time of writing this article is 9,330 CZK.
Cerca de Playa Jardín is an excellently rated budget apartment with city views in a quiet location near the center of Puerto de la Cruz. Playa El Muelle beach is located just 400 meters from the accommodation. The price for a week’s stay at the time of writing this article is 11,390 CZK.
A pleasant, slightly more expensive option is Casa Sunset with two bedrooms and a kitchen, which has a garden and a balcony with mountain views, and can be stayed in for a reasonable price. There’s also an outdoor pool and free private parking. Playa Jardín beach is only 800 meters from the apartment. And you even get a bottle of sparkling wine as a welcome gift.
If you get cold easily like I do and are looking for apartments with heating, you can choose here. Today, I would pick the budget-friendly but highly-rated Apartamento Sandra, which is by the sea and offers an outdoor pool, terrace, kitchenette, and free parking.
